3/10/2024 0 Comments Debit ach vs credit achIf you’re willing to allow float settings for your Originators, make sure that you’re assessing risk before and after they begin sending credits. Hence many float Originators may receive a wire transfer or a direct deposit in their account just as the settlement debit posts. Invoices, membership dues or even taxes take time to arrive and could create short-term funding needs. Because a hospital doesn’t have those revenues instantly as services are rendered, they rely on short-term borrowed funds to replenish their accounts to help pay bills or perform payroll. For example, a medical facility waiting for patients to pay bills before insurance payouts occur or waiting for Medicare/Medicaid payouts. However, in the cash management world, revenues for certain types of businesses aren’t deposited timely and dependency on short-term funding from lines of credit is needed. ![]() Why would you use Float? It seems far riskier when you’re not (a) checking for available balances or (b) debiting the amounts in advance from the account. Many cores or systems have some issues when canceling credits sent in advance or processing reversals on prefunded account holders, so this may cause the clearing account to be out (the system cancels or reverses clearing entries too). Your financial institution should add this to its daily independent reconciliation process and immediately escalate any outages. Then, when the effective date of the Origination arrives, a debit will post to this clearing account and clear the previous credit. When the Originator is debited early under the prefunded setting, a credit is posted to this clearing account. Thus, per your ACH or treasury management policies, performing annual reviews may be easier or streamlined because there is one risk category without much exposure.įor the back offices and reconciliation departments, many systems or online platforms will require the use of a clearing checking account for handling the prefunded settings. When using the prefunded settings, because you’ve significantly reduced the credit risk possibilities of your Originator, that greatly reduces the risk overall. Why would you use Prefunded? That’s simple – it’s your choice, as an ODFI, to avoid any insufficient funds risk of the settlement debits of your ACH credit originations. O Float Settings = No available balance checks whatsoever, and settlement debit appears on ODFI’s files with a matching Effective Date of the originated ACH credits. The account holder’s account is debited when the credit payments settle. Float Originators – no requirement to pay in advance for transactions, batches or ACH files processed by ODFI.O Prefunded Settings = Available balance reviewed first, then settlement Debit with current banking day is batched within ODFI’s ACH files for immediate posting. Prefunded Originators – required to pay in advance for all transactions, batches or ACH files processed by ODFI.For credit Originations, account holders are placed on system settings as either: There’s nothing wrong with either preference, as it’s a choice made by your Board of Directors that then influences the policy and risk management program your financial institution has in place. Established in 2013, MoneyLion connects millions of people with the financial products and content they need, when and where they need it.As an ODFI, you may underwrite your ACH Originators in two different ways based on your institution’s preferences or risk appetite. How to teach students to find text evidence using Flocabulary Consider using educational videos instead of textįlocabulary has long been helping students develop into informed, thoughtful, and discerning citizens who can both spot a strong argument and make one. This is a skill that will support their critical thinking and verbal intelligence. We also want to teach them how to make compelling cases when they create their texts. And a lot of the time, wisely means skeptically. To help our students grow into informed, thoughtful, and discerning citizens, we must help them learn how to consume content wisely. Is there text evidence? Does it make sense? This is one area where textual evidence instruction comes into play. In other words, the evidence that supports the central idea of the argument. So how are we supposed to help young people tell the difference between the ideas and opinions put forth by individuals with legitimate credentials and those with no credentials? One way to be a discerning consumer of information is to pay attention to the details. According to a report from Common Sense Media, screen use increased by 17% for tweens and teens from 2019 to 2021 after the start of the pandemic. Young people today, more than in any other generation, are bombarded with information on screens of all sizes. It gives peers, comedians, novices, and salespeople the same platform and audience as professionals and subject matter experts. The internet – and social media in particular – is a great equalizer. There is a whole new generation of texts to read, listen to, and watch. Many of the texts that young people consume come in the form of Tik Tok videos, Instagram captions, Youtube videos, movies, and TV shows. Even a live performance could be considered a text. The definition of a text has expanded beyond the traditional written word to music, video, social media, and more. That’s because, nowadays, many of us get our information from a wider variety of sources. As I type this, that process-pens, paper, notecards, highlighters- seems from a bygone era. I went to the library with my classmates, and we used the Dewey Decimal System to find books on the topic we wanted to write about. I remember finding and citing textual evidence while writing research papers in middle school. While looking for text evidence might come naturally to us as adults, it’s something that we had to learn at some point. ![]() Why is it important for students to cite textual evidence? Video is the new “text” We want them to show their audience that they know what they are talking about that they can back up their argument with evidence. Similarly, when we ask students to cite textual evidence in their writing to support their own claims, we ask them to strengthen their claims by providing proof. ![]() How is the author supporting their claims? Equally as important, we teach them to seek greater understanding by deepening what they know about the topic. When we teach students to look for and cite text evidence, we are teaching them to check out if the claims made in a piece of text seem legitimate. This is how I know.” Why teach students to find textual evidence? Looking for textual evidence is like asking an author: “How do you know?” Textual evidence says to the reader: “Here’s proof. We also often look for evidence when determining if a source is reliable or if an argument makes sense. It helps them prove their point and make their argument stronger in the classroom.
